Immigration Evaluations in Arizona, Colorado, & Washington
Niyama Integrative Therapy provides clinical mental health evaluations for select immigration-related matters. The immigration process is a complicated one, and when your immigration case is making use of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), U visas, T visas, or hardship waivers, it can be even more complex.
These evaluations are clinical services conducted to assess psychological functioning, mental health history, and any relevant emotional impact when applicable.
Evaluations are completed using a comprehensive clinical interview, professional judgment, and the information available at the time of the appointment, and may include consideration of collateral documentation when appropriate.
-
All evaluations are completed as independent clinical assessments and are based exclusively on the information obtained and clinical findings observed at the time of the evaluation. Each report is a professional, evidence-based record that reflects only information that is observed, provided by the client, supported by available documentation, and determined to be clinically relevant. Both the presence and the absence of clinical findings are documented clearly and objectively.
Scope and purpose of reports
Reports summarize presenting concerns, relevant history, mental status observations, assessment measures used (when applicable), diagnostic impressions, and clinical recommendations when appropriate.
Findings are guided by clinical judgment, standard diagnostic criteria, and the information available at the time of the evaluation.
Reports are intended for clinical and legal support purposes and aim to communicate the evaluator’s professional opinion based on the assessment data.
Limitations and disclaimers
Evaluations reflect the clinical picture at the time of assessment; they do not predict future course with certainty and should not be interpreted as comprehensive, permanent, or definitive beyond the evaluation context.
The evaluation is not a guarantee of any legal outcome, case approval, immigration relief, or a specific administrative or judicial decision.
Recommendations contained in reports are clinical in nature and are intended to inform decision-makers; they do not bind courts, agencies, or other third parties.
Confidentiality and documentation
Information disclosed during the evaluation is handled in accordance with applicable confidentiality and record-keeping standards. Documentation will note what was reported, observed, and corroborated by records when available.
Any limitations to the evaluation (for example, incomplete records, limited collateral information, or language barriers) will be explicitly stated in the report.

A clinical immigration evaluation uses multiple methods to assess an individual’s mental health and functioning. Key components and their purposes:
Components
Standardized psychological tests: Objective measures that assess symptoms, personality traits, cognitive functioning, and adaptive skills.
Clinical interviews: Structured or semi-structured conversations that gather psychiatric history, current symptoms, psychosocial background, and functioning.
Observations: Clinician’s direct observations of behavior, affect, and interaction during assessment sessions.
Information gathered
Symptom profile (depression, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, etc.)
Diagnostic impressions and differential diagnoses
Functional impact on daily life, work, and relationships
Relevant psychosocial stressors, history, and protective factors
Test scores and interpretation that contextualize clinical findings
Uses and applications
Informing mental health treatment plans (therapy goals, level of care, medication considerations)
Documenting impairment and clinical need for services
Supporting legal or administrative decisions, including immigration proceedings
Guiding accommodations, disability determinations, or educational/occupational planning
Immigration evaluations: role and limitations
Purpose: Provide professional documentation of mental health conditions, their causes (e.g., trauma), and how conditions affect functioning—information that can be relevant to asylum, U-visa, VAWA, or hardship claims.
Value: A well-prepared evaluation by a qualified mental health professional can strengthen an immigration case by supplying clinical evidence, expert opinion, and corroborating details about trauma or psychological harm.
Limitations: An evaluation is supportive evidence but not determinative. Outcomes depend on multiple factors:
The legal standards and requirements for the specific immigration relief sought
The strength and consistency of the overall evidence (medical, documentary, testimonial)
The quality of legal representation and the legal arguments presented
How effectively the evaluation and other evidence are presented to decision-makers
Practical considerations when seeking an immigration evaluation
Choose a clinician experienced in forensic or immigration-related evaluations when possible.
Provide thorough documentation and history to the evaluator (medical records, police reports, affidavits, etc.).
Discuss with your attorney how the evaluation will be used and what issues it should address.
Understand that the evaluation contributes to the case as part of a broader evidentiary and legal strategy.
